Minister of Law and Order & Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka stated that the geographical location of Sri Lanka creates severe complications in the nation’s effort to rid the country of narcotics and illicit substances and prevent such items from entering Sri Lanka.
Minister Ratnayaka brought to light that the government along with law enforcement authorities both locally and abroad is actively taking steps to prevent drug smuggling.
Speaking to the public at walk against drugs organized by the National Youth Services Council, Minister Ratnayaka reassured the public of the government’s stance.
Accordingly customs officials have stated that sugar containers coming into the country from Brazil are under strict scrutiny. The media spokesperson for Sri Lanka Customs Sunil Jayarathna stated that a joint venture has been carried out along with the Sri Lanka Police Narcotics Bureau to curtail drugs coming into Sri Lanka.
