UNP MP Dr Rajitha Senaratne says the reports by certain media that he is to be sworn in as a minister before the President are completely false.

Issuing a statement, the former Health Minister said that his objective is to show the parliamentary majority of the United National Front (UNF) led by Ranil Wickremesinghe, as soon as possible.

Senaratne said that he will never support any “undemocratic conspiracy” and that he will betray democracy by accepting a ministerial portfolio.

Certain media reports had claimed that the MP was set to be sworn in as the Minister of Health once again.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has submitted a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (2) requesting not to appoint Dr Rajitha Senaratne as the Minister of Health in the new government.

The GMOA warneed that they would carry out island-wide strike actions without giving prior notice, if the former Minister were to be given the ministerial position.

The letter stated that necessary measures have already been completed to present a petition against the actions of the former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, containing the signatures of the medical officers across the country, to the President.

The GMOA alleged that the general public of the country oppose the disastrous impact the former Minister had on the country’s health sector and the unstable systems in the country during the past three years.
