Sri Lanka Navy rejects the allegations of assaulting Tamil Nadu fishermen who are apprehended for poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Rameswaram Mechanised Boats Fishermen Association Leader S. Emerit disclosed to Indian media that Sri Lankan naval personnel, wielding guns, threatened the fishermen with arrest if they ventured into the area again.

When Ada Derana queried regarding the incident, Navy Spokesperson Commander Dinesh Bandara stated that the Navy completely rejects these allegations.

However, any fisherman entering Sri Lankan waters illegally would be apprehended and taken action according to the law, he stated.

The Indian fishermen’s catch and equipment, which was worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, were also damaged, Indian fisheries authorities alleged.
